Friday June 1

Although I didn't put the moth trap out overnight, the heavy rain may have encouraged some moths to seek shelter in our bathroom.

Most were species I have already recorded this year: a Common Pug, a Green Pug, and a Brown House Moth. But a fourth moth proved to be the first Spectacle of the year. Indeed only the second record for the bathroom.

Spectacle
If you are wondering how this moth got its name, the answer is revealed when you view the moth head on. It appears to be wearing comedy sunglasses. I kept it overnight to demonstrate this in better light.

Making a spectacle of itself

Finally, a slightly alarming beast was spotted in our downstairs toilet bowl. What appeared to be a very relaxed worm crawling about underwater (as it were) was discovered on second glance to be a Leech. Yuk. It had presumably crawled up the U bend. A quick flush returned it to wherever it had come from.
